Governance Framework

  The Association of Canadian Customs Trade Advisors (ACCTA) is committed to maintaining a transparent, ethical, and accountable governance structure that supports the association’s mission and the broader Canadian customs and international trade advisory community.


ACCTA operates as a not-for-profit industry association, guided by established governance policies designed to ensure responsible leadership, member engagement, and compliance with applicable Canadian laws and regulatory standards.


The association’s governance framework is designed to:

  • Promote integrity and professionalism within the customs and trade advisory      industry
  • Ensure responsible management of ACCTA’s activities and initiatives
  • Support constructive engagement with government and regulatory stakeholders
  • Maintain transparency and accountability to members and the broader trade community



Board of Directors

 ACCTA is governed by a Board of Directors responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of the association.


The Board’s responsibilities include:

  • Establishing the association’s strategic priorities
  • Approving policies and governance frameworks
  • Ensuring responsible financial management
  • Supporting advocacy initiatives on issues affecting the customs and trade advisory industry
  • Overseeing committees and working groups


Board members are expected to act in the best interests of the association and uphold the highest standards of professional conduct.


Committees and Working Groups

 ACCTA may establish committees and working groups to support specific areas of focus, including:

  • Government relations and regulatory engagement
  • Industry best practices and standards
  • Education and professional development
  • Member  engagement and growth
  • Policy and advocacy initiatives


Committees provide opportunities for members to contribute their expertise and help advance the association’s objectives.


Transparency and Accountability

 ACCTA is committed to maintaining transparent governance practices. The association has adopted a series of governance policies that guide the conduct of members, leadership, and participants in ACCTA activities. These policies are designed to ensure that ACCTA operates with integrity and in compliance with Canadian laws and professional standards.

Engagement with Government and Industry

 ACCTA provides a professional forum for engagement between industry participants and government stakeholders. 


The association seeks to support informed dialogue and constructive collaboration with organizations such as:

  • The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
  • The Department of Finance Canada
  • Global Affairs Canada
  • Other relevant regulatory and policy bodies


ACCTA’s advocacy and engagement activities are guided by its Government Relations & Advocacy Policy and its Competition Law Compliance Policy.
